Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
This will be my second Medical Missions Trip. Last year I travelled to Calabar in Nigeria with a group of healthcare professional from my local church, Jesus House. We provided free medical care and medication for over a thousand people in a small rural village in partnership with a local charity. It was a truly humbling experience with people travelling from the surrounding villages to seek medical assistance.
This year we will be heading out to Nairobi, Kenya working with a a local charity - Action in Focus. Action in Focus believes that sincere out-going love for our fellow man can solve the complex problems of society today. They put our caring into action, conducting work with integrity and transparency; respecting the culture, customs, and religion of the communities they serve.
The healthcare system in Nairobi is still developing and in certain areas , resources are minimal or not available. In areas where it is available it comes at a cost. We will be going to local villages to help the local people ,one of which are the Maassai , they are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
The key health challenges in these less privileged areas are mostly hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, lack of health screening for pregnant women , lack of formal cervical/ breast screening and lack of dental care .
There will be 10 medical professionals, including myself, heading out from the United Kingdom. We will be providing free medical services to the local people .
So how can you help?
The group consists of a total of 22 Volunteers from a number of different professional backgrounds. We have each always had the desire to volunteer for charity work that will make a difference in people`s lives, particularly those less fortunate and especially within the medical sector.
The trip is self-sponsored and it is on 3rd to 12th November 2017, and I am appealing to my dear friends and family to assist financially. The target amount is £1200. The trip is round the corner, planning is underway and time is of the essence.
