    Story

In 2009 Enable purchased the Drumbee old schoolhouse outside Armagh city for the purposes of providing short term respite for children and adults with a learning/ intellectual disability and/ or autism. This has proved to be an invaluable resource to our charity in the facilitation of our many projects and services. Whilst we have been facilitating short breaks from the premises for over 5 years now, we wish to carry out some refurbishment works to one of the outbuildings on the property in order to create an indoor games and recreational area for individuals staying at the schoolhouse that will include space for a pool table, table tennis table and air hockey table.

We have approached several local building contractors to get estimates for the works required. These estimates ranged from £16,831 to £19,500. The works required are as follows:- New insulated tin roof & roof structure; repairs to external walls; replacement windows & external doors; rewiring; installation of heating system and associated external works.

Families whose sons or daughters that receive short breaks in the form of residentials from the Drumbee old schoolhouse describe them as essential in helping them to continue caring. Short breaks not only support carers, but also provide an opportunity for disabled children and adults to have a break from being cared for by the same person all the time. The better the break for the disabled child or adult, the greater the benefit for the carer, who knows the person they care for is being well looked after and having a good time.

So please help us make this dream a reality.
