    Story

It started as a bid to raise a lot of money for my company’s nominated charity, From Wales, which works directy with a community-based project charity in Malawi -Fisherman’s Rest, who help build schools to make kids lives better -as part of getting the great people at Gü involved & making a difference.

But now I’m taking it on myself, albeit I really hope my effort will be the springboard for others to get involved too. So, I’ve got 10 months to raise AT LEAST £1,000 for 2 deserving charities; one the Great Ormond Street Hospital -who my dear friends Chris & Anna can thank for saving their beautiful little girl Chloe‘s life -who was diagnosed with Leukemia before she was even 1, and 3 year’s later is making good progress & so far remains in the clear after finsihing her last round of Chemo.

The rest of the fundraising will go towards the Noble Partnership with Malawi-based Fisherman’s Rest; and I’m told that Noble Foods will match what I raise in donations -thereby doubling the ££. And there is a reason to link these two charities; the Noble charitable Partnership was actually set up in honour of former Marketing Director at Noble, Steve Horton, who himself died of Leukemia, but not before he’d help raise more than £1M for Help for Heroes with his brand Eggs for Soldiers.

So, that’s the charity, now for the pain! The 1,000 km Challenge is just that. I’m committing to walking, running, cycling etc.-whatever it takes -in the next 10 months. That’s 100km per month, or 24km a week. Yikes.

The good news is I’ve started but I have some catching up to do, Including my first Sunday night run this week! I’m planning to target 20 km a week & boost my total -hopefully with a few friends /colleagues -with a long distance ’super challenge’ or two -possibly London to Brighton, Hadrian’s Wall, 3 Peaks or South Downs Way later this summer.

Now I need your help. Please sponsor me, and help me, help Great Ormond Street & Fisherman’s Rest (Malawi). Give whatever you can & let’s smash that charity target!! Better still say you’ll help me & join me on the ‘super challenge’ & help me get through the pain barrier, together.

Longest ever walk last week, from home Tom Richmond Park & back. Nearly 3 hours. The dog may not want to come next time! Loving getting to know every road & some off road beauty spots which have passed me by ‘TIL now. Like the mini park rising above the river up Richmond Hill. Must pop into the pub -the Roebuck- some time. Looks good.

Occasional Good Samaritan, making up for lost time! I’ve got 10 month’s to raise as much money as I can before the end of 2018 when I call it a day! 1,000km doesn’t sound a lot. But to me, this is my Everest, an almost unreachable target that I simply have to climb & conquer.
