Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
My spouse and I have been trying for a baby for over 3 years now. As a Type 1 (insulin dependant) Diabetic the NHS are prepared to help with IUI OR IVF, but they are only prepared to do this when my blood sugar levels are steadily within range. My Diabetes is brittle, which means it's extremely difficult to keep in range. My GP and diabetes care team, along with the preconception team have advised that the Freestyle Libre blood glucose monitor would help massively in monitoring my blood sugar levels, because each time you test via the wireless sensor it gives detailed readings of how your blood sugars have been behaving over the past 8 hours, along with a trend of if your blood sugars are currently rising or dropping. The device also connects to a mobile device, so my spouse can help with monitoring while I'm at work etc.
Unfortunately this device is not currently available on the NHS, even though it is proven to be a great piece of equipment!
The device itself costs around £150, and the sensors that attach to your arm to 'read' the blood sugar levels are approximately £40 each. These sensors need to be changed every 14 days, so this is where the main cost is, but we are hoping that after a year of using this device we will have much better control of my diabetes, and will be able to successfully reapply to the NHS for their help in making our dream of having a baby come true.
