    Story

Dad couldn’t decide if he wanted flowers at his funeral or not. As he put it in his letter to us: "I like flowers, but it’s a waste as they get thrown away. In a way that’s their beauty. A carpet of cherry blossom blown away by the wind, washed away by the rain…" So we’ve decided to get him his very own tree in Victoria Park, a cherry blossom tree.

We used to walk with Dad in Victoria Park every weekend and he would always comment on the many different flowers, blossoms and the changing colours of the leaves. It seems fitting that with a tree of his own he will continue to be part of this.

We will share the location of Edward's tree with you so you can visit it in years to come.

If there is any surplus, we will donate the remaining funds to Macmillan Cancer Support, which Dad gave money to every month in honour of our mother.

With much love and thank you, Thalia and Harry xx

Edward's Cherry Tree: Day 1 The tree is planted where Edward often sat to have a break on one of the benches opposite, usually eating a vanilla ice cream (should you want to recreate the experience). It is currently a very young tree, but hopefully it will grow happy and healthy and be there for a long time to come!

After much longer than originally anticipated we are delighted to let you all know that Edward’s Cherry Tree has now been planted in Victoria Park! Thank you so much for all your contributions. The funds you raised, your generosity and your messages were overwhelming and Edward would have been delighted. The location is on google maps here: https://goo.gl/maps/dYd2itk2Shr or see the map below with the red circle. We hope you enjoy it and its blossoms as much as he would have done. With love, Thalia and Harry

I am sorry for your loss. Ed left an indelible impression on everyone he met, no matter how briefly. He was a generous and wise tutor. I hope to some day visit his tree. Warmest wishes, Ana

Ed and I shared enthusiasm and ownership of 'iron' Harley XR-750s. Few bikes survive and now there is one less enthusiast too. I'll miss him for that and for much more besides. Ride safely up there!

Hi, Edward,Thank you so much for being an excellent friend to the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation. I remember your exhibition with us in 2012, and your talk so well. So sad to know the news....
