Story
Next Tuesday, on the 7th August, Huw will be setting off from Ilfracombe in North Devon and attempting to cycle 100 miles to Plymouth on the south Devon coast. He is taking on this three day cycling challenge to help fund his adventure to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in summer 2019.
Training has gone well, with him managing to do 29 miles in a day and getting back onto his bike after a spectacular crash. This is a particular challenge for Huw as he had a broken leg at the beginning of the year!
Huw will cycle the whole route, with his mum and dad taking it turns to ride with him (the non-riding parent will be in the support Mondeo with the dog, driving to the next campsite and putting up the tents.)
More info about Huw plans to travel to South America in the summer of 2019 with his school and Camps International. In Ecuador he will be volunteering on community projects and on the Galapagos he will be exploring and studying the wildlife. If you know Huw, you know what a big deal this trip to South America will be for him as an aspiring scientist and explorer...and the challenges he has overcome to get to this point. 6 years agoTHANK YOU to all those that have sent messages of support or donated to Huw for his Coast to Coast cycle ride. We have worked out he cycled 96 miles and cycled up 5,576 feet of Devonshire hill over the three days. Huw is very happy with what he's achieved (although still determined to return to finish the final 8 miles). With £130 donated through Just Giving and £210 in cash and cheques he has received £340 in donations so far for his cycle ride. THANK YOU AGAIN! This takes Huw's fundraising total to more than £2500, so over half way there!

6 years agoSo a slightly premature end to Huws amazing cycling adventure! Thanks to a pair of track hogging cyclists on the outskirts of Plymouth, Huw was forced to swerve to avoid crashing into them and ended up over his handlebars. All bones intact but too sore and shaky to continue...for today. We have to return to Northamptonshire this afternoon but Huw has vowed to return to Devon in the next few months to finish the last 8 miles of his ride.
