I, Ellie-Mae and another 5 Scouts /Explorers Scouts from the South Holland District Explorer Scout group have earned our places at the 24th World Scout Jamboree, West Virginia, USA in August 2019. The selection process involved a weekend camp tackling various challenges such as Team building and social debates. I was lucky enough to earn my place in the 58 strong contingent from Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.

I, with my group will be representing British Scouts at the international camp, which is held every four years, and travel to Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, where they will join 50,000 scouts from around the globe at the event jointly hosted by the Scouts of the USA, Canada and Mexico.

I’m really excited at being selected and I’m looking forward to meeting other Scouts from all over the world & making new friends as well as the amazing adventures we are going to have.

But to be able to participate in an adventure of a lifetime, I will have to for the next 18 months complete many training camps/exercises and fundraise £2500 which is much needed.

As a Scouting group we have already organised Bingo Nights, Race Nights, Heaven & Hell Camps, Fenland 50 Hike and much much more which will take place leading up to the Jamboree.

But, I need to individually fundraise to help with the costs!!

So here is the plan - West Virginia is 240 miles long from the North of the state to the South. I have decided I want to swim this distance! Crazy I know. 240 milles is equivalent to 15,360 lengths of a 25 metre swimming pool. I will start this epic swim in February 2018 and plan to have completed the full distance by February 2019. Thats a weekly swim of 320 lengths or more (bearing in mind of school commitments and training camps).
