I'm 16 years old and go to Radyr comprehensive school in South Wales
For years I have had a keen interest in computers, but in the last 2 years I have been using the power of my desktop and laptops for more than just leisure
I've been contributing to projects such as folding@home, rosetta@home and enigma@home. Folding@home helps contribute into research into protein folding to a variety of things, such as cancer and Parkinson's disease to name but 2. Rosetta@home does research into finding the 3D shapes of proteins in research that could ultimately lead to finding cures for major human disease, such as HIV, malaria, cancer and Alzheimer's
While enigma@home is a cryptology programme, with the purpose of decoding 3 of the original enigma messages from the nazis, intercepted in the North Atlantic in 1942 and are, as yet still unknown, but this computer can help with that. A team from Russia successfully decoded a message on May 6, 2010, and with the upgrade to my system I could contribute far more and possible decode another message.
I will continue working using all of the mentioned projects, and I aim to contribute to more projects from BOINC, from helping research into disease, as well as mathematical and physics problems.
The money will be used to upgrade my current PC, into a computing powerhouse, which will drastically increase the workload I can contribute to these projects, and in future many more. I plan to run the system for 24 hours a day, the only reason to stop would be a power cut, as I will pick quality components for it that will be able to cope with constant usage.
Donations of all sizes are all very welcome, any and all funds raised will go towards building the system, keeping it running and upgrading it in future.
