    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Across the world, rhino are heavily poached and population numbers are dwindling quickly. In South Africa alone, 13 white rhino were recorded as poached in 2007. In 2016 alone, there were 1054 recorded cases. Many private rhino owners have given up their fight in South Africa and closed down their previous safe havens. Why? The cost is too high. Anti-poaching methods are needed more than ever, yet the cost is pushing private reserves to bankruptcy.
In March, I had the opportunity (as part of the course I'm studying) to visit a reserve that is pushing forward, despite the managers, trackers, volunteers and of course the anti-poaching team putting their own lives at risk every single day. Donations and the cost of volunteering is what keeps the reserve going, and funds the anti-poaching unit.
After a life changing 10 days of scratching the surface in regards to the depth of the issues this reserve faces (money being the biggest, but fueled with corruption and poaching) and getting to know people fighting for rhino on the front line, I knew then that I would be back.

It's so important that we protect these animals, they play such a massive part in the ecosystems they live in. Their eating and toilet habits provide so much growth, dispersion of seeds, food for other creatures such as the dung beetle, which ultimately plays a huge part in further dispersal and adding nutrients to the ground. That's just one example of how these shy creatures contribute.

If I raise enough to go back, I'll be directly contributing to the management and protection of these beautiful, endangered animals every day that I'm there (2 months). If you donate, you will be too.

Any money collected over the cost will be sent directly to the rescue as donations.

Hi, I'm Em, a University student about to enter year 3. I spent the first two years studying Animal Science and am moving onto Wildlife and Conservation. I would love the opportunity to be able to help rhino directly and in person and learn about conservation in more depth.
