The Embrace Radio Show was established in June 2017 as a pilot programme launched at the start of Learning Disability Awareness Week. The radio show is hosted and co-produced by 5 adults with a Learning Disability. The adults have a responsibility to Produce, Host and Market their own show with support from 6 Towns Community Radio.
This programme enables the team to develop important lifeskills; time management, money management, communication and planning, teamwork, friendships are a host of skills, which will be developed. We have the opportunity to deliver something, which is currently not available across Staffordshire and will be provided in Stoke-On-Trent.
We aim to develop and sustain the programme to enable the presenters to increase awareness of national topics (self-care, carer rights, men’s health week, LGBT), remove life barriers, develop presenter skills through outreach broadcasting and creating a connection to local communities.
As a volunteer lead community radio station we rely on donations and outside broadcasts to ensure the show continues over the 18 months. This means accounting for every penny and adapting the stations marketing and advertising strategies to ensure we have enough funds for main bills.
The Embrace Radio Show will be delivered and developed by volunteers. In order to ensure we comply with regulatory standards, health and safety and contracts; a director will be paid to manage and coordinate the show during this time.
6 Towns Community Radio are considerably excited to support this venture and the director will be volunteering outside of the show hours to enable the presenters to develop and evolve.
The Embrace Radio Show is a collaboration of partners to enable new opportunities for people to up skill, achieve their dreams, develop and evolve a media platforms to utilise as a method of communication, bringing energy, conversation, interviews to the people of Stoke-On-Trent.
It is our ultimate aim is to utilise social media channels to inform change, good practice and embrace life without barriers through the development of Embrace Radio Show.
‘Taking people on a developmental journey, realising they can achieve their dreams, influence policy, support topical agendas, drive integration, encourage people to be Connected to theirCommunity, enable people to have a voice’
