Hi, we are Emily & Lauren, born and bred northerners who are looking to take our play (Eggs) written by Florence Keith Roach down to London next year after a sold-out and well-received run in Manchester this year.

We certainly surprised ourselves at what we managed to achieve in such a short space of time - despite nearly declaring ourselves bankrupt (sorry parents) - and we are incredibly proud of that. However, we would really appreciate a little bit of financial help for our London adventure so we can take our production to the next level. Eggs is unapologetically thought challenging and poignant but most of all it will have each and every one of you in stitches with giggles, it really is a laugh a minute (if it doesn’t, we will buy you a pint).

Eggs is a dark comedy based on friendship, fertility, and freaking out. The play delves into the underlying issues around gender identity, roles, and disparity from systemic societal pressures. The themes in the play have a great deal to say about the world we live in, and the effects our neoliberal society has on young people growing up today. Eggs follows two women, leading very different lives, the only thing uniting them is their struggle against society’s expectations. This is a story about young women trying to figure out who they are, how to exist and who to be. In the end, it is friendship, however flawed, which rescues those women from utter alienation.

We are reluctant to ask for help off family and friends, as we appreciate people are generally in the same boat as us, but we feel our northern adaptation of Eggs has immense potential and is delivered in a unique style which will be far different from what the London scene is often used to.

The money that we raise will be spent on…

- The majority of the funding will be used to pay for The Tristan Bates Theatre, in Covent Garden where we will be performing a weeks-long run. This is an ace opportunity which we are incredibly grateful for. We were offered performance dates at other London theatres but decided on this one as we felt it is the perfect space for the play to be completley immersed.

- In our previous production, we used our own bits and bobs (furniture and props) to make the set. With some of the funding, we would like to create a more sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing set which would be more appropriate in the space.

- Marketing is going to be incredibly important for us in London as we know it's a larger, more competitive theatre scene. This means we will need to attract people with flyers, posters, billboards, radio advertisements and promotional videos.

- We produced the show last time with help from our friends which - although rewarding - was exhausting and created limitations. This time we would like a professional producer involved so all of the correct responsibilities are taken care of.

- We would like to cover the Directors cost of travel and other expenses.

- Most importantly your money will help us facilitate workshops and community engagement activities that correspond to the themes in the play such as, female support groups, abortion support groups and mental health within people identifying as women.

£800 is only part of the amount we will need to successfully stage the play, so we will be raising the remaining funds ourselves by organising various workshop fundraising events.
