Weʼve raised £1,110 to help raise money for Looe Rowing Club to get more people in the community involved in sport and to help the RNLI

Funded on Saturday, 21st October 2017

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

I'm cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End solo, with David as back up in the camper van; to a) raise money for Looe Rowing Club and the RNLI and b) to decide what to do next having 'retired' from teaching in July.

My godmother had a nasty car crash in April and nominated the RNLI as a charity she cares about, so the ride is also a tribute to her as she's been in hospital for 4 months following horrific injuries

I am passionate about rowing and encouraging other people to take part in this fantastic sport and getting as much pleasure from it as I have over the years. The money raised will help the club achieve this aim as well as enabling the top rowers to work towards winning the World Pilot Gig championships in 2018.

My last update on here. I've completed the ride in 13 and a half days, and it was just under 950 miles with over 13000m of climbing. Highlights included Glencoe, the Kirkstone Pass and the last 4km from Sennen to Land's End. If you would still like to donate to Looe Rowing Club and the RNLI, that would be great and a massive thanks to those who have. Also many thanks for all the messages of support; they really kept me going. David was a star with his support, always round the corner in a layby when needed! I'm having a rest for a week now!

Just over a week to go now and I've had to train in the rain this week, which has been better than I expected, though my bike is not a fan of mud and rivers on the roads. I'm building the mileage slowly and will be aiming to average 20kmph over 5/6 hours daily depending on the elevation and my navigational skills. I'm hoping to reach the £1000 target and will be donating to the RNLI and Looe Rowing Club. Thank you so much to those who have sponsored me so far; it is much appreciated.

Well, two weeks today I will be in John O'Groats ready to start the 17 days (maybe more and maybe less!) ride to land's End. Being a bit nerdy, I am busy laminating 'flashcards' of each days' routes with names of roads and villages as I am deeply mistrustful of the garmin. Training for ladies Newquay has kept me off the bike but I'm reasonably confident that I will be ok for 100km a day. I should be passing through Looe on Wednesday 4th October. Please sponsor me for the RNLI and Looe Rowing Club.
