Story
On Sunday 8 October 2017 I'm going to be running the York Marathon and whilst I'm doing something that I really love, I'd like to raise some money to help a wonderful family friend who tragically is no longer able to do a lot of the things that she loves due to being confined to a wheelchair with Motor Neurone Disease.
This cruel disease has progressively ravaged the body of a young, super-fit, healthy mum of three in just a matter of years. Our friend is an amazing person and she's been an inspiration in our lives ever since she started high school in Harrogate with my younger sister Susannah over 30 years ago. She channeled her sporting passion, talent and dedication to compete at the highest levels and progressed into a career inspiring future athletes. Her fine mind, cheeky sense of humour and the determination of an athlete still burn bright, even as her body fails her.
There is NO CURE for Motor Neurone Disease but whatever I can do to help make just one day in the life of my friend and her family just a little bit easier will make me extremely happy. Every single penny you donate will go straight to this friend to secure therapies or equipment not available on the NHS, or maybe you'll enable them to fund a family experience that will create a great memory for them all to treasure? Your money isn't going to a big Charity to spend on advertising campaigns or salaries, but to a local family who I personally know will cherish your generosity and kindness.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you'll support me in my mission not only to complete my FIFTH marathon, but also to help me make a difference by doing so.
My challenge holds no comparison to the one our friend and her family face every single day.

7 years agoI am so excited and nervous for Sunday's marathon but also feel very grateful to my generous friends and family for already raising £440 to help our very dear friend with Motor Neurone Disease. My challenge is nothing compared to the one she and her family face every day. Thank you everybody for all your support and taking the time to read this - whether you've donated, shared my post, sent a message or joined me on training sessions/long runs it ALL makes a difference and gives me motivation to keep on running. Thank you. Emma x
