As of June the 18th 2018 I will be joining SLV Global in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks, to take part in many projects that are run to help the local community, while further gaining much needed experience in mental health and psychology.

There is only one psychiatrist available for every 500,000 people in Sri Lanka, unfortunately this means many people with mental health issues are instantly put on heavy medication. SLV take part in incorporating behavioural therapies and other methods that are not readily available to the people of Sri Lanka. I will be working in these mental health units incorporating sensory, music and behavioural therapies to engage with patients in a variety of wards and multiple institutions. I will be involved in training and workshops dedicated to supporting us in responding to the psychological needs of trauma sufferers i.e. tsunami survivors and those experiencing stress in relation to the recent war (PTSD). Further, I will also be working with children with special needs and teaching English to individuals on vocational courses.

ANY donation is greatly appreciated! Your money will go towards my Monday – Friday homestay where I will be living with a Sri Lankan family along with other volunteers, all the relevant training required, all the vaccinations I will need and necessities such as the Sri Lankan curry I will be happily living on.
