Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
Emmerson Whittel is a second-row forward who plays Rugby League for Kingstone Press League One side, the Keighley Cougars.
During a Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Third Round tie away at the Fryston Warriors on Saturday 25th February 2017, an ugly brawl broke out during the second half.
Unfortunately, Whittel was cornered by a group of opposition players and was set upon in ugly scenes not seen in Rugby League for years gone by.
As a result of these scenes, Whittel sustained a broken jaw which has ruled him out for a minimum of three months.
Emmerson underwent a successful operation to re-align his jaw and bite on Thursday 2nd March and was discharged on Friday 3rd March.
Emmerson is an Engineering Student at the University of Huddersfield meaning a lengthy spell on the sidelines from Rugby League means he has lost his only real source of income.
Keighley Cougars as a club supports all it's player through the good times and the bad times and this injury is not as a result of a Rugby injury but one which has come about through violence, so we have decided to group fund on Emmerson's behalf.
We know the Rugby League family to be an extremely supportive one and we know they will help Emmerson during this difficult time by donating to help him live off the field as he recovers to come back better and stronger than ever onto it.
