In July I will be travelling to Ghana with Original Volunteers where I will be volunteering in local schools and communities for 3 weeks. Whilst the trip is self funded, I am raising money for supplies to hand out to people who are in need. School supplies such as books, pens, pencils and crafts are needed as in many of the schools there are no supplies at all meaning the education the children are provided with is affected. A £2.50 donation could provide a child with pens, pencils and a work book so that their education is improved. The children and their families also rely on donations of clothing, underwear, shoes and hygiene essentials as they can't afford to buy any for themselves. A £5 donation could provide a family with essential items to stay clean and safe. One of the biggest problems in the area is a lack of clean water, many of the people who live in the villages only have access to dirty water which makes them ill and can cary diseases such as Cholera. To tackle this problem, trips will be made to rural areas handing out water filter buckets which the families can use to make the water safe to drink, meaning they are less likely to become ill due to contaminated water. A £10 donation could help provide a family with a water filter bucket meaning they will no longer have to drink dirty water, as a water filter which would provide clean safe water for up to 59 people for 6 years costs just £40.
