Story
Hi. My name is Ethan. I am an Explorer Scout from Wansbeck District and have been selected to participate in the 24th World Scout Jamboree in the USA 2019. This is a huge honour for me to represent Northumberland and the UK and meet up with fellow Scouts from across the globe with the theme “Unlock a New World.” We will be working together, embracing the growing trend of leadership development and global citizenship, to seek answers and solutions to international questions and problems such as poverty, starvation, and conflict.
The World Scout Jamboree is, above all, an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. I will learn so many new skills and an appreciation of the needs of people around the world.
Selected from nearly 100 applicants, I will be one of the 36 Scouts from Unit 34 – Northumberland. I must fund the event myself to the cost of £3850. This not only covers my camping equipment, travel/insurance but also helps to fund financially disadvantaged scouts from developing nations attend the jamboree.
I will raise funds by car washing, bag packing, bake sales, odd jobs, donations and social events. If you are able to donate anything at all towards my fund I will be extremely grateful and appreciative.
It is 3743 miles from Northumberland, UK to West Virginia to every £1 gets me one mile closer! Thank you for your support.
