    Story

Evesham Bat Care is a group of people that rescue, rehabilitate and release bats. All the carers are registered with BCT (Bat Conservation Trust) and one is a licensed worker. We cover five counties and receive no wages and no help with funding kit or fuel or anything.

For the past three years, any surplus funds each year have been set aside with the intention of building a flight cage, essential for teach young bats how to fly and hunt. Up until now, we've had to find spaces at other people's flight cages and take our bats to them.

A couple of weeks ago, we were offered a flight cage from a retiring bat carer. This was an opportunity we could not turn down but it's come with a huge amount of work. All the money saved to date has been spent on the ground works and transportation. We now need to raise funds for the final push. For wood preservative, for some bits of wood to replace some rotten areas, for screws and staples to hold the flight cage together, for brackets to hold shelving and storage to the walls. Little things that will make all the difference in the long run.

We set a target of £250 initially as we thought that with some frugal planning we could complete the required works for this amount. Anything extra over this amount means we can invest in spare bulbs for the special lights, thicker insulation for the shed and more heat pads and equipment. The target will be nudged if you lovely people make it possible. We didn't allow for fees from here or biscuits for the human slaves in our original sums

Thank you for reading this. Thank you for considering this as a cause worthy of some of your hard earned pounds. We are truly grateful.

It's all gone very quiet for about a week now. We appreciate that if you're going to give, you'll do it at the very beginning of the campaign. The plea for help went in the local paper last week but they didn't include this web link so that won't have helped the 'spreading the word' situation. It was also pointed out that £325 is a huge amount of money (which it is) and we should be grateful, rather than pushing for £400 (which is true) but that little bit more could and would do so much for EBC, the critters and the wider audience.

So, the campaign is six days old and you have all been super generous to this point. We have three more weeks to go (time set by Just Giving, not us) and all the carers have decided that our ultimate target is four hundred squids. This would give us enough to kit out the flight cage and care shed with everything and there may even be some pennies left over for hob nobs, a glitter ball and spare bulbs for the special insect attracting light fittings. We're not going to change the target figure again, it is what it is, fingers crossed!

Oh my goodness you FABULOUS, lovely, amazingly generous, gorgeous people. £300 in three days. You are all just blinking brilliant. The campaign runs for thirty days, that's apparently what happens so we'll tweak the total so that people aren't put off giving. Anything over £300 will be put towards upgrading elements of the design, buying extra kit for the seasons ahead and absolutely, definitely, not at all in the slightest will it be used to try the new chocolate chip hob nobs that the human slaves have been told about.
