Story
As some of you may be aware, on the 13th of September 2019, my life changed drastically. I experienced a terrible headache and didn't know what was wrong. As it happens, I had suffered from a stroke which then led to a brain injury. The first thing I remember is being periodically in and out of consciousness for around 6 months, not being able to remember what had happened or communicate with my family. I do remember lots of tears!
I have been diagnosed with aphasia and am still on my rehabilitation journey, including speech & language therapy, physiotherapy and regaining my confidence. It's unbelievable how an incident like this can impact on your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I have decided to set myself a goal. I'm going to travel back to Malawi - along with my youngest daughter Isla - in 2024. I have previously visited Malawi on numerous occasions - at least 4 times - and have volunteered to support a local charity, Renew'N'Able Malawi. You can find out more about their work on their website here: https://www.renewnablemalawi.org/
When I'm in Malawi, I will be helping the charity to install solar panels at local primary schools, to help ensure sustainable renewable energy that people need to study, communicate, cook, innovate and be safe.
