    Story

As recent Art Graduates, we aim to progress as emerging artists within the competitive art world. This being our first show in Bristol, we want to take the city by storm ad gives ourselves exposure and access to financial and commercial art markets.

Do-IY is a brand new collective formed in Bristol, built from a fusion of art, music and technology, forging a synthesis of ‘gesantkunstwerk’. We use this platform to produce, collaborate and curate; our ethos focuses on ‘universal art’.

With this philosophy in mind, we bring you 'I'm new here'. The exhibition illustrates the transition between cities by recent Fine Art and Music graduates. 10 artists reveal their documentation of this change in habitat, through an array of mediums and formats. The various bodies of artwork display their personal journeys in every shape and style, from the comfort and safety of university, to graduate life in the competitive art world. Materiality, colour and structure are paramount throughout the exhibition; the closely chosen art works will play, combine and integrate with each other, creating this pleasurable and sensory Utopia.

Collectivity is key. Similar to the post WWII Avant-Garde movement, COBRA (‘The Avant Garde Won’t Give Up: Cobra and It’s Legacy’, by Gingeras, M. Alison), we focus on their idea that creativity is a social and interactive process. Concentrating on quasi-synchronism, COBRA attempted to break down the formal boundaries within the current art climate. The Do-IY collective seeks to push the confines of contemporary Art practice, and will attempt to create a blend of art, music and technology. Like quasi-synchronous transmission in radio broadcasting (the method of achieving wider area coverage using multiple transmitters without needing multiple frequencies), Do-IY brings Bristol innovation in a condensed package, spreading its roots far into the scenes it penetrates.

We hope that this exhibition is an opportunity for us to branch out within the Bristol Art scene, meeting new people to engage in critical dialogue amongst visitors, artists and professionals. If we hit our target of £500, then this will allow to achieve our goals and hire an amazing space at Centrespace. One which will compliment a group of young emerging artists.

Centrespace is a thriving community of artists and craftspeople offering both studio space, workshops, events and a gallery space for hire. Centrespace was founded in the late 1970’s and has been running as a co-operative since 1987.

Centrespace continues to develop creative opportunities for the wider community in the heart of the City of Bristol.

All your donations will be extremely appreciated and we would like to thank you in advance for any help we receive.
