Story
Simon and Lynne are the third generation running the village newsagents. His maternal Grandfather Mr Orpe opened this shop in the 1950s...... then Simon's parents Joan nee Orpe and Len Beevers took it over and ran it for a lot of years until Len became ill, so Simon and his wife Lynne stepped in and have worked there for years and years. Supermarkets began selling papers and cigarettes and their sales dropped a lot over the years and then when the Card Factory opened in the village (further up Church Street) it has left them struggling to keep their heads above water until the inevitable has happened and they have been forced to close down...... they deserve all the help that we villagers can give them now. It's the last of the old shops of our village. Please help us by helping those in need right now and show our appreciation to a lovely family, the heart of the village.
Thankyou

I haven't lived in Armthorpe for a long time but I remember Mr Orpe and the Beevers. It's a sad reflection of our times that local businesses aren't valued until it's too late. Very best wishes x

Every little helps. This donation is made in memory of my late mother in law Katie Kniveton (Charnock) who worked for Mr Orpe for many years. Also for my mum and dad who were customers of Len.
