    Finley's Story

When i had my 20 week scan we found out some scary news, that Finley's right leg wasn't forming properly and his tibia was a lot shorter compared to the one in his left leg, they also said he had fixed talipes.

Once Finley was born we then took him for a consultant appointment and at just 4 weeks old the began casting his whole leg just to try and straighten his foot, however during this time if was discovered through a x-ray that he had no ankle joint so even if the managed to straighten the foot it wouldn't benefit him in the future as there would be no bend in it and he also had missing bones in his knee which causes it to move from side to side and have unsteady balance. We were told that a amputation would give him the best outcome in life however we went to Great Ormond street Hospital for a second opinion and we were told the same thing, this was a very hard time as we made the decision to have the amputation performed.

On the 3rd February 2016 Finley went in for his amputation at just 11 months old, he was such a brave little boy and as a family we couldn't be any prouder. He had a great recovery with the support from his family. Just after his 1st birthday he had his new leg which was a very exciting time. He has had 2 more since they are provided by the NHS which we are extremely greatful for but they aren't the best and cause a lot of soreness and discomfert.

At 18 months old he finally took his first steps on his own this was an emotional moment as you can all imagine and he still carries on to progress every day.

We are asking for any donations to go towards a new leg to buy which will support him a lot more and also to go towards and adaptions which may need to be made to make Finley's life easier if the future.

We are aiming to go over to America to get Finley's leg made so we are hoping to raise enough to allow for travel costs to get there etc.

Thank you for all of your support we are extremely greatful. X

I was told my son (now almost two) had this condition at the 20 week scan. It turned out to be a curved tibia bone but your story could have easily been ours too. Best of luck with everything xx

I have upped the fundraising amount as we are having amazing support and then he will have money for the further legs in the future when he will eventually need a new one. No hate please!
