Story
I am a mental health professional working with mental health service users who have a diagnosis of Psychosis.
People living with Psychosis have a significant reduced life expectancy with studies indicating that they die up to thirty years earlier than the general population. One of the main risk factors contributing to service user deaths are accountable to obesity related diseases including Diabetes Type 2 and cardiovascular disease.
To raise awareness of Diabetes Type 2 we are running a "Diabetes Day" later on this month. This will involve a meal served to service users using ingredients that involve more fruit and veg and less white carbohydrates like rice/bread/pasta. Following the meal there will be some talks about what Diabetes is and how lifestyle changes in diet and exercise can make a massive difference to prognosis and quality of life. The talk will also discuss soft drinks and we want to provide alternative soft drinks that are delicious and sugar free!
Following the talk there will be activities that service users can learn about the amount of hidden sugar in processed food.
We are hoping the weather will be good but if not were planning on using a gazebo. However, I have just found out that its broken and there is no funds to pay for another.
We need funds to pay for a new gazebo, paper plates, and towards the cost of food and drinks on the day. Some of the food has already been donated but to introduce new ingredients a cost will be involved.
If you are willing to contribute any amount it will be very gratefully received. Thankyou for reading this.
