As some people may already be aware, I am currently part of the Air Cadets Junior Leaders Course. The physically and mentally demanding course spans over nine months and as part of the assessment I have been tasked with planning, organising and implementing a fundraising activity to raise money for the John Thornton’s Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).

John Thornton was a student on the Junior Leaders course and was awarded top student at the time. However, he was sadly killed in Afghanistan aged 22, as a Royal Marines Officer. The JTYAF was set up in his honour and the Junior Leaders course still helps to support the charity. The charity’s objective is to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing annual scholarships and bursaries for their training and personal development in the pursuit of their ambitions.

Therefore, I have set myself the challenge of trekking 52 miles from Salisbury Cathedral to Winchester Cathedral and back within a day on the 15th February 2018.

However, it’s not just the JTYAF I will be supporting, but 1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets as well. In the 5 years I have been part of 1010, I have been presented with some amazing opportunities. The experiences I have gained through the air cadets have helped me to grow as an individual, and do things that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my squadron. Therefore, I’d like to give back what I can to 1010, and help the current and future cadets fund for camps/activities/extra equipment that we may need in the future.
