    Story

    This is Florrie.

Florrie is a tiny chihuahua/sausage dog who was rescued by her owner's daughter from a puppy farm seven years ago.

Last week, Florrie sadly had an accident that - due to to her tiny fragile frame - left her unable to walk or hold her head up. She was referred to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, where they have the specialist skills to examine such a small dog.

There, the MRI scan revealed that Florrie had slipped a disc and would need work costing more than £2,500 to help her recover. Unfortunately, due to previous health issues, Florrie was unable to be insured.

Florrie is a very special dog, as she really enjoys her weekly visits to the St Helena Hospice where she visits as a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog and has a real gift for bringing comfort and cheer to people who don't have a lot to smile about.

Jenny Homewood co-ordinates the Complementary therapy volunteers, including PAT dogs, at the Hospice. She says: "Florrie has the advantage of being such a wee little sweet thing that she be passed around from lap to lap. She provides comfort and companionship to many, including those who may have had to give up a pet. She is greatly missed and our patients wish her all the best."

Florrie was unable to be insured, as she had already suffered from meningitis and spinal problems in the past. Florrie's owner had the option of putting the little dog down, but due to all the happiness that she brings to those in the hospice, she took out a payment plan to fund bringing Florrie back to full health.

Her owner is a pensioner and is struggling with this financial burden, so I would like to try to help raise money so that we can get Florrie back on her feet and back doing her therapy work at the hospice as soon as possible.

This will make a lot of difference to a lot of people.

We appreciate any donations, and any shares of this little dog's story.
