Football Chance Foundation works in the compound of Mtendere, Zambia. The project uses football to make a difference to young lives within the community. The foundation looks to help young people develop their sporting abilities but also focuses on developing their social and life skills awareness through the power of football.
We strongly believe that sport has the power to make a big difference to disadvantaged communities and we are passionate about working with young people within the community helping them develop both their football and life skills including the opportunity of being part of our young leadership programme. We have designed a model outlining ways in which we feel using sport can have a major impact on the community and from work we have already participated in we have proof that football can definitely be used as a vehicle for social development.
Football Chance Foundation will start with setting up and funding a football team who will compete in a local league. As part of this initial project they will also deliver an awareness programme on HIV/ Aids and start Young Leadership Programme which will look to develop young coaches within the team. To start with the porgramme will just run within the community of Mtendere but we have aspirations to develop further in other areas of Zambia working with other programmes being delivered to help create sustainability within the communities. Football Chance Foundation will create a platform for youngsters to be able to play in an established team and league on a regular basis.
We aspire to set up other projects once the football team is established including setting up and funding a girls team, providing regular meals after matches for the players, sponsoring children through the education programme and creating a platform to help local people set up their own small businesses.
