Weʼve raised £50 to finance a research assistant who finds out whether knowledge (libraries) or practice (football clubs) helps to understand the offside rule.

    Story

Hi, we will be using the first two donations for the DBS (clean police record check) so that Viron Erotocritou can start with the data collection for this study soon! Thank you so very much for your help to date. We still need some financial support for travel costs.

A previous study on children's understanding of the offside rule showed that while girls in principle understand it, boys who played football more than three times a week were better judges of this football rule - and 2/3 of the boys did play this often.

Here is a link to the study (open-access)

We now want to test (1) whether girls who play in an English football club will be as good as the boys, and (2) boys who prefer the communal library over the football pitch will be as good as the girls in this game.

Please do sponsor a research assistant who could visit football clubs and libraries and run the computer game with the children.
