    Story

This is for Amy. A 44 year old mother, sister, wife and daughter. She has always been a huge source of joy to so many people and is the epitome of rising under adversity. Her passion for life and her positive outlook are some of her biggest attributes – we had no idea how badly she would need these traits – as she is now facing an unimaginable hardship.

In 2016 Amy underwent massive surgery to remove a large tumour from her abdomen. It was connected to her liver, her right kidney and diaphragm. As a result her one kidney, part of her liver, a section of her vena cava and a portion of her diaphragm was removed.
Fast forward 6 months and a follow up scan showed that the cancer had reappeared in both lungs and on her liver again.

Aggressive chemotherapy started immediately – three days of IV chemo every three weeks and daily chemo tablets – this treatment has brought her to the brink on many occasions yet her fighting spirit refuses to be ignored. She tackles each day with every ounce of strength that she has. The reality though, is that she is not physically able to care for herself or her family. The doctors have said her body is at breaking point and have suspended treatment for the time being to give her a chance to regain some strength. This is not without its worries though – no chemo means the cancer goes untreated.

Amy runs a children’s playgroup from her home and this has had to be downsized as she can no longer be an active staff member. Medical aid is covering a portion of her healthcare but not all and have recently declined the application for a home carer as, in their words, “It’s treatment or home care, not both”.
The SA doctors have done all they can in terms of local treatment options. There is a specialist Adrenal Cancer Unit in the USA who may be able to provide further treatment.
Any donations will go toward covering doctors appointments, home care and medical bills. Thank you SO much for your time and love.
