    Story

On the 19 January 2018, at 41+1 weeks, our beautiful son Finley William Smith passed away during labour. He was perfectly healthy. Our newly qualified midwife failed to identify his signs of distress.

We are completely heartbroken that our baby boy died due to someones incompetence and lack of care however we need to put our anger and energy into something positive. We need Finley‘s memory to continue which is why we have set up Forever Finley.

In the short time that we had with Finley, we tried to collect as many memories about our boy as possible. As a bereaved parent, you want to do all you can with your baby as you know you will never get those moments back. When Finley‘s older brother, Luca, was 4 months old, we had his hands and feet casted and framed. We wanted to do that for Finley. We approached a number of local casters but all were uncomfortable with casting a sleeping baby. We decided to do it ourselves, we watched You Tube and bought some materials off the internet and successfully casted Finleys tiny hands and feet. We were overjoyed that we had such a precious memory of our boy.

We want to give other parents this amazing gift and help cast their angel babies. This Unregistered Charity will allow us to personally cast sleeping babies, it will train NHS bereavement staff to cast aswell as providing the materials to do so.

My wife and I found your story so heartbreaking. However, it's truly a wonderful and generous thing you have created. A perfect way to honour your Son. You are in our thoughts.
