Story
Hi, my name is Francesca Kingaby, and in May this year I found out I have Alopecia Areata.
Alopeica effects both genders.
Alopeica means that the immune system attacks the hair folicules, which causes them to fall out. This makes it an autoimmune disease.
Alothough there are some treatments, they dont work for everybody. The treatment I have been given has been Betnovate, which like many hasn't worked for me. The next step will be injections into the patches.
I have about 60% hair loss on my head at the moment and about 40% on my legs. Its depressing, it's sad, and it is a grieving proses. We dont realise, as women (and men) how much our hair means to us, day to day. So, I'm going to shave the rest of my hair, in aid of Alopecia U.K to help fund charities, support groups and to find a cure that works for everybody.

I'm Francesca Kingaby, 23 years old and I suffer with Alopecia Areata. Before I was diagnosed with this disease I thought that alopecia only happened if you were old. I didn't realise that the word 'Alopecia' literally just means hair loss.
