    Story

Firstly, thank you for visiting our page, for all your prayers, thoughts and support.

We welcomed our precious son Zak with a bang on 5th November 2016...at 27 weeks of pregnancy as opposed to 40 weeks. Zak was extremely small for his gestation and we were told several times it would be unlikely that he would survive, as he was very high risk for infection of which his little body wouldn't be able to cope with.

As parents, we held a vigil by his incubator for 4 and a half months, day and night...We resided at the Ronald Macdonald Charity House in Camberwell during this time which was an amazing support both logistically and emotionally.

Zak was fortunately born at King's College Hospital. It is there he fought for his life with the greatest team of doctors and nurses behind him. He was the smallest baby on the unit with the biggest character and personality at a mere 1lb....470 grams to be exact. Everyone warned us it would be rollercoaster, 1 step forward 2 steps back...and it sure was. All of the staff not only the doctors and nurses but everyone who worked at the unit became our family.

We cried, laughed, celebrated the milestones, lived in fear and grieved the pain of seeing our biggest love have to face so many battles. But he fought. He fought so hard and defied so many odds.  After surgery on his heart valve, double hernia, collapsed lungs and suspected sepsis, we finally bought home our little man where he belongs after 140 long painful days. He is our world and we owe every one at King's College Neonatal hospital his life. He fills our hearts with such pride and joy and we are in awe of his strength and will to survive. We are so proud he is our Son.

We kindly ask for any donation, however small or large to help support the neonatal team at Kings College, a cause which we are truly grateful for, who really do perform miracles...

    All our love

Alex, Francesca and our Shining Star Zak
