I'm a first year student at the University of Leeds. Every year Think Pacific selects a small number of students to take part in a voluntary project in Fiji. This involves living with a local family whilst providing one-on-one literacy tuition to children in some of the poorest island villages, introducing a variety of sports in afternoon PE lessons and organising village sports days.

There is limited access to education, youth and sports facilities in areas of Fiji, and rural schools are devoid of basic resources. Families in remote villages struggle to meet their daily needs and less than 50% of people have access to proper sanitation and fresh water.

I am looking forward to making a positive contribution to this volunteering project, experiencing Fiji and appreciating the unique Fijian way of life. It will be a tough and rewarding experience which I will really enjoy being a part of. The project is financed by the funds raised by us, the students.

I'll be doing a variety of fundraising activities between now and July. The money raised will go towards scholarships and educational support to 50,000 children annually, the cost of the project (briefing, training, resources and equipment for rural schools) and flights.
