    Story

Frankie was born on the 20/07/18 @ 10:30am via emergency C-section. Once born, we quickly realised that poor Frank was not as healthy as his sisters and he was diagnosed with a cleft palate and cleft lip. These conditions are birth defects that occur when a puppy’s mouth and/or lip do not form properly during pregnancy. They significantly reduce the puppies chance of survival as they cannot feed from their mother properly and can lead to serious complications. Unfortunately this meant that Frankie would not be able to stay with his sisters and mother, as this would be too risky for him.

From this point onwards he needed to be hand reared with round the clock care and feeding via a feeding tube. Luckily, one of the nurses at his veterinary surgery decided that she had the knowledge and love to give Frankie a chance at survival. Carly had to give Frankie two hourly tube feeding for the first six weeks of his life.

Through Carly’s hard work, love and dedication Frankie is now a bouncy, happy 14 week old puppy. However, Frankie now requires surgery to fix his cleft palate and lip so that he can be a normal healthy puppy. The only effective treatment for clefts involving the lips and palate is surgical closure. Depending on the extent of the cleft this repair may be relatively simple or may be complex.

Therefore this may not be the only surgery he requires but the initial operation is vital to prevent further health issues for Frankie. We have been advised that the cost of these operations will reach in to thousands of pounds and so we are asking for donations towards his operations and the specialist care that he will need to be able to recover. If anyone is willing to contribute to the veterinary fees for this beautiful boy, we would be eternally grateful.

If you would like to follow Frankie’s journey as he grows, we have made his very own Facebook page and here is the link:
