Weʼre raising £1,000,000 to support the Freedom Flight Prize for Zero Carbon Aviation

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

The Freedom Flight Prize aims to raise a £multimillion prize fund for the first zero carbon flight across the Atlantic in a 100+ seater plane.

Commercial air travel has a very high carbon footprint – but on the flip side travel has a huge role to play in business, to culture & education as well as our leisure and happiness. The Freedom Flight Prize doesn’t accept the compromise of having a high carbon footprint for getting to travel – in fact the Prize recognises that the technologies to power flights based truly on sustainable renewable energy are available. So why isn’t your holiday or business flight truly powered on renewable energy? This is more down to commercial pressures and industry intransigence.

The Freedom Flight Prize is here to revolutionise the aviation sector.

As the world adapts to the new normal, in the wake of COVID-19, we realise that the climate emergency crucially needs addressing to avert an even bigger disaster. At the same time, flight numbers are rapidly returning to normal levels – adding to the global carbon emissions.

The Freedom Flight Prize is led by sustainability experts Carbon Footprint Ltd

The competition is open to manufacturers, research/academic groups and inventors to come up with and fly a 100+ seater passenger aircraft powered by 100% renewable energy (must not be biofuels) -more on the Rules . The plane must complete a return trip from London to New York; each leg of the trip in under 10h and must finish the return leg within 24h of starting out on the round trip.

Freedom Flight Prize gives anyone the opportunity to support & encourage this historic venture. Businesses, organisations and philanthropists are being urged to support the legacy forming project. The general public is also encouraged to get involved and support to see the change that most air travellers and climate change activists sorely want, but the industry is slow in giving them.

This is the revolution that I have been waiting my whole career for – the Freedom Flight Prize puts 100% renewable flights right in the spotlight and will accelerate the industry to deliver on the needs of the people and the planet.

Note there is a standard processing costs of 2.9% + 25p which is applied to each donation by Just Giving. All the remaining money raised will go directly into the Freedom Flight Prize fund.

Fantastic initiative and much needed to accelerate aviation to where it needs to get to for a viable future on this planet. Congratulations on sticking your necks out to do this and very best of luck.

Like all the best ideas, you wonder why this has not been done before. 100% renewable flights will add a whole new meaning to 'Flying First Class.' First Class thinking - you guys!
