During a recent visit to Ghana with Akwaaba Volunteers, I spent some time at Future Leaders Underprivileged Children's Centre (UCC). For 20 years the UCC has been helping children from Ghana's capital who are living in extreme poverty to get the education they deserve and to inspire the children through school, providing mentoring, healthy meals, vocational skills and extra curricular activities.

Before Travelling to Ghana I asked Jordan Palmer, Akwaaba Volunteers CEO, if I could take anything to help the children. She suggested a few drinks bottles and base ball caps. I collected children's sun hats, sun glasses and various water bottles from the lost property boxes of a couple of local organisations and handed them out to children while I was in Ghana. The sheer joy and pleasure on the faces of the few children that received the gifts was overwhelming. The disappointment of the many children that didn't get anything was heart breaking.

I would like to be able to provide a sun hat and a drinks bottle for every child in the school. It doesn't sound like much, but trust me it will it will make a positive change to every child's life in the 30 degree heat.

We all have hundreds of contacts on our social media accounts. Just a tiny donation from each of them would soon allow us to achieve this and make an immeasurable difference to children who deserve at least a hat and a water bottle.

Please consider not just donating a small amount but also asking your contacts to do the same - we could all lose a £1 and not even notice it. The 150 children at the UCC will appreciate it more than you could ever imagine.
