    Story

Having taught in Portree High School for many years I, and four other retired teachers from the Isle of Skye, am hoping to complete the Camino de Fisterra in the north of Spain this month. While I look on this as a personal challenge, I also hope that it will benefit a cause very close to my heart.
A week after we return, I will go back to the Narcissa Centre in Slatina, Romania which I have visited twice a year since I retired. The Centre cares for and nurtures orphaned or abandoned children and provides support for some of Europe’s poorest children from the Roma community. Any money raised from our walk will be used to enhance the lives of these children and also to help with the upkeep of the Centre.
During last winter's visit, I was concerned to see some of the children arrive in summer sandals and bare feet in bitterly cold conditions. Thanks to friends and family, I was able to buy them all warm socks and winter boots and ensure that the children did not go hungry. I would very much appreciate your assistance in continuing to provide for the underprivileged children of Slatina this winter.

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you very much to everyone for your wonderful support. I have been surprised and delighted to see many names which I remember fondly from Hut43. I am now on my way to Romania and am looking forward to seeing the children's faces when they receive their boots and socks. It is cold in Slatina now, and it can be bitterly cold for the next few months. I will also take them to the cinema which is a rare treat for them and one I know they love. In my very faltering Romanian, I will try to tell them about you all and your kindness.

We have made it! Finisterre - the end of the earth, and it feels like it! 204894 steps - 105km and watched the sunset from the Lighthouse. Thanks for all the support and many thanks to Compeed blister plasters.
