    Story

Gallows close centre is situated in Scarborough in an area of deprivation, we are a self funded, non profit organisation reliant on funding, donations and centre hire, we have two paid members of staff and rely on local volunteers to help run the centre and keep the doors open, our volunteers are the core to the centre, without them... we would struggle to remain open.

We have been running independently for 13 yrs and started with just £5 in the kitty, the centre was very run down and almost came to closure, thankfully 3 local people ( now volunteer directors of the organisation ) stepped in to prevent this from happening. We are also supported by local organisations including Yorkshire Coast Homes, Sanctuary Housing, Citizens Advice, Barrowcliff Residents Assosiation, Barrowcliff Big Local, Tyro Training and local organisations which offer community maintainence, we are very lucky and very thankful for their support.

Three years ago i was lucky enough to come to Galloows, little did I know I would grow to love my role as a development worker, i feel very passionate, protective and proud of what we have acheived, especially over the last couple of years. It has been the toughest, most challenging role to date but by far the most rewarding journey I have had the privilege to be a part of.

We offer a wide range of activities for all ages and from all walks of life, this includes helping vulnerable children & adults. Our aim is to help reduce isolation, build confidence, teach new skills, provide a safe pop in community hub to offer vital advice, this could be housing advice, debt management, employment services and so much more and also decrease anti social behaviour with young oeople.

We run sessions for adults with learning dissabilities, summer clubs, community engagement programs for unemployed and disadvantaged adults, community events, an ex-sevice garden project, free internet community hub & cafe, the list is endless..

We would like to continue to improve the centre, peoples lives and offer more services, by offering a welcoming hub. The centre is in great need of many improvements and one of them is a new floor in the hall. The floor is very old, scratched, chipped and has certainly seen better days. It never looks clean no matter how many times we brush, hoover and mop and it is a real let down to the hall, especially when we have young children, parents, carers, yoga and much more using the floor space for a range of different activities.

Paddy & Jon from Yorkshire Coast Radio are kickstarting the fundraiser by doing a 3 legged walk in Whitby, Bridlington & Scarborough. Three organisations have been chosen and we are lucky to be one of them, they will be in Scarborough on Friday 25th May, look out for them and please help us to improve the centre, people lives and create a better future for our children.

Any donations large or small are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you kindly in advance.
