I have recently been lucky enough to be awarded one of four of the Geoffrey De Havilland Flying Foundation's John Cunningham flying scholarships for 2017. This is an absolutely invaluable opportunity to further my flying training, developing both my airmanship and aviation knowledge. Ultimately, I will be working towards my first solo cross country flight. Each year the foundation gives young aviators, shortlisted from the previous years air cadet pilot scholarship winners, the ability to further themselves when they may not of otherwise been able to.

The scholarship is named in memory of Group Captain John "Cat's eyes" Cunnigham who was a distinguished RAF night fighter pilot in WW2 and later went on to be the chief test pilot for the De Havilland Aircraft Company, where he flew aircraft such as the comet (the first jet airliner). An extremely inspirational character who's passion for aviation has enabled so many aspiring avaitors to achieve something they may not have due to his charity work.

In August 2017, I am going to take on the Yorkshire 3 peak challenge SOLO, in order to raise money for both the Geoffery De Havilland Flying Foundation so they can continue to provide these amazing flying opportunities to young aspiring aviators and also for the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance so that they can continue to provide their fantastic and heroic work in the community.

The challenge entails a 24 mile walk, with a 5202 feet total ascent and it has to be completed within 12 hours.
