Weʼre raising £2,000 to help me go to Borneo in the summer of 2019!
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
My name is Gemma I am fourteen years old and I have been given the once in a life time opportunity to go to Borneo, south east Asia, for a month with camps international. Although, it costs an incredible amount of money (£4350) I am determined to go as while we are on the trip we help to improve the environment, education and quality of life for the community.
This is important to me because the last few years have been a big challenge for me when I was just 9 years old I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy, I suffered through many allergic reactions to various medications, that were used to try and prevent me from having absence seizures, however in 2015 I was offered brain surgery, which ultimately, we hoped would cure my epilepsy. Unfortunately, the operation was not a hundred percent successful and I had many absence seizures when my medication was lowered, I am now on a higher dosage so my absence seizures are under control. I am determined to live a full “normal” life and will not let my epilepsy stop me. I control my epilepsy; my epilepsy does not control me! I would love to go to Borneo and be able to give back to people who are less fortunate then I am.
We will be involved in many activities which will help improve the local’s quality of life, including, building local schools, reforestation, teach children English and maths and even build a bridge across a lake allowing children to get to school safely in flood risk areas.
This will benefit me so much, it will make me see things in different perspectives, allow me to make new friends as well as developing social skills. I feel this would the perfect ending of my GCSEs and school life.
I will be doing many fundraising activities myself. Including a 5k, 10k run and much, much more. Any donations, big or small, would be much appreciated as well as sharing my funding page.
Please help my dream come true
