George Robertson (my grandad) was an inspiration to many people. He devoted a large portion of his life to helping others, always there to lend a hand and to put a smile on your face when you never thought possible.
Even when faced with the news that he had been diagnosed with Leukaemia, he never once asked the question "Why ME?" He just accepted it and made the best out of a bad situation by fighting until the end.
Grantable Hospital in Glasgow was where he received the treatment he required. However my Grandad had a very unusual strain of the disease as it was normally only found in children. So, as the doctors' said, he was "a guinea pig" in regards to receiving the medication he did. Incredibly the treatments and medications he did receive allowed us to be able to spend an extra 5 years together.
Unfortunately, after falling very ill to a sickness bug, he was unable to keep the medication (required to keep him alive) in his system and, as a result, the cancer began to spread rapidly.
This sadly resulted in the untimely and deeply devastating passing of my Grandad whilst he was in Dumfries Royal Infirmary where he spent his last days with us.
Therefore, May 2nd this year will mark 5 years since a great man was taken from us, in his honour I am looking to raise as much money as possible which will in turn be donated to both Gartnavel and Dumfries Royal Infirmary.
