Story
I am utterly DELIGHTED that this Summer I will be travelling to Rwanda to live and work for four weeks as part of the Global Learning Partnerships Programme. I am travelling with a small cohort of colleagues and we will be placed in different communities across the country. The majority of my placement will be spent in the Mahama Refugee Camp in Kirehe and I will be predominantly based in the primary school there.
Whilst there I will be supporting teachers and delivering training in order to develop teaching methods, resources and approaches to education.
The idea being "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime". In the hope that when my colleagues and myself leave the local educators can continue to deliver and develop the education training, making it sustainable year on year out.
This will very much be a reciprocal learning environment, whereby I learn from educators in Rwanda and fingers crossed they learn from me! Allowing me to return home with first hand experience of Global Learning in order to enrich the education of my pupils in Scotland. I really believe this trip will provide me with the most incredible experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity whilst enhancing both my teaching and mentoring skills.
As most people will know I absolutely love my food and as such I have decided that as one of my fundraising efforts I will be living on a pound a day for a week. The menu will be specially designed by the Primary 7's at my school and they will have only £7 to spend on my 3 meals a day, for 7 days. I have been told that I have to photograph all my meals and also take my lunch in for the pupils to check that I am not cheating!
I am completely overwhelmed by the support received so far and beyond grateful for any donation, no matter how big or small to help me reach my overall fundraising target.
Much thanks and big love,
Georgia x
