Hi everyone, my name is Francesca and on the 14th July 2018, I will be going to Volta Region, Ghana with a group of 20 others from my sixth from. Growing up, it has always been a dream of mine to see the world and experience different cultures. This trip will not only enable me to do exactly that, but also allow me to make the most of my time there through a week of volunteering.

During my time in Ghana, I will be given the option of either teaching or building. Both of these roles are extremely fulfilling and will involve interaction with children as well as creating more learning spaces. Any extra funds raised will go to buying resources for both teaching and building; these will include textbooks, reading books, notepads, pencils, board games and sporting equipment. For building, these items will include gloves and paintbrushes. Many of these resources will be bought in Ghana to help the locals.

£1,845 will cover the costs of indirect return flights to Accra, insurance, accommodation, project work, meals and airport transfers and an adventure weekend as well as a contribution towards development of partner projects. However, not included in these set costs are medical expenses (vaccinations, antimalarials), visa fees and a daily budget for drinking water, which will amount to around £2,000 in total.

Within my time in Ghana, I will be helping with creating schools for children, renovating classrooms, kitchens, toilet blocks and security walls. Currently, there are around only 20 schools in the Volta Region and being able to help build the foundations of even one school will make a difference. In Ghana, government schools are underfunded and need support to maintain facilities, as a volunteer I will be helping to support sustainable development.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated, and will all go towards improving the lives of those less fortunate.
