After 2 years of suffering with chronic kidney disease, my sister in law came forward as a match for a live donor. Her selfless act has given me another opportunity to live my life again.
After a successful 'Gift of Life" charity event to help raise awareness of live donor and raise funds towards the Kidney Foundation to help research in finding a cure for kidney diseases, we would like to continue raising funds for those that could not make it or for people that would like to help a great cause. There are over 5 million people in the UK that have kidney disease but are totally unaware.
Of the almost 7,000* patients currently on the UK’s transplant waiting list, 30% have been waiting more than two years. More than 500 of them have been waiting longer than five years – that’s over 1,800 days each.
In the last 10 years and over 6,000, including 270 children, have died before receiving the transplant they desperately needed.
