LONDON MARATHON FOR ANDREA KEARNEY FUND

Pregnancy + Cancer feels such a terrible combination. Joy and excitement clashing with fear and uncertainty.

This happened to Andrea Kearney, during her 5th pregnancy. Though she delivered a healthy boy the cancer progressed and the family's time together was short. After her death in May 2008, husband Peter set up this Fund to support women and their families in similar circumstances.

I knew Andrea from a local community group and we ran together for a while in 2005/6. Andrea sprung on while I plodded, but we finished together.
In a moment of optimism I said we we should run a marathon...
'Hmm, maybe do a 10k first?' she answered, ever the realist.

Some people just make an impact on you.
Though Andrea became increasing unwell she took time to support a friend who'd just had a cancer diagnosis. She was a shoulder to lean on in house-moving drama, which she was going through at the same time.

In 2008, with her own health failing, Andrea urged me to stay healthy and active as a preventative measure, which I've done at varying levels since then.

So now it's the London marathon on Sunday 23rd April in London. I won't be fast and I may not look pretty doing it , but I'll do it for Andrea.
