Story
The Girls for Plan foundation was started in 2010 by a group of young girls in Frankfurt, Germany to help girls all over the world access the same opportunities that we enjoy every day.
Girls for Plan wants to help create a world in which children, young adults and their families do not suffer from poverty, and can develop healthily and freely. We envisage a world in which children, young adults and their families are treated with respect and dignity; for this reason, the needs, rights and wishes of those that the foundation seeks to support are central to all aid projects we choose to fund. The foundation particularly aims to support girls who suffer from the consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM) and to raise awareness about this ritual. In so doing, the foundation wants to advance gender equality for girls and young women, and to promote access to education.
The foundation has been working hard over the past years and we are proud to say that we have achieved some successes:
- Previously, girls in Malawi between the ages of 15 and 18 could be married with the permission of their parents. Girls for Plan has aided in ensuring that girls are now legally prohibited from being married before the age of 18.
- Girls for Plan have helped fund workshops and training courses to educate migrants in Hamburg on the negative repercussions of FGM.
- The foundation has also helped fund locally-led workshops and information campaigns on FGM in Mali.
These achievements have simply made us more eager to help other girls live the best possible lives. Hence, we look forward to your assistance in helping us achieve this goal!
