    Story

Our well-used village hall is a converted Victorian school, built for the children of local agricultural workers in the late 19th century. At the end of the school yard - now our small car parking area - were a boys' and girls' outside toilets. These facilities are still in use - although they have been upgraded and redecorated over the years. We still do not have internal loos and there is no disabled toilet at all. Many of our users are elderly and somewhat infirm in varying degrees - they badly need internal facilities and a disabled toilet is well overdue. We have saved some £5000 and are holding various fund- raising events, such as a model railways exhibition and a choir concert to be held in Beccles. We are saving from our letting income and trying to raise as much money as we can from donations and our own 100 Club lottery.
We have asked a local architect and local builders to draw up plans and give us costings for the project. We have contacted Waveney District Council and their Building and Planning Departments. Planning permission will cost us some £275 and the plans around £250 or so. We believe that we will need around £15000 to complete our project and provide the facilities we badly need. We only charge £4 an hour for lets to locals in the parish and £5 to others, partly because we do not have internal loos and partly because we are a registered charity, not a business. When we complete our project, we will be able to attract a wider user base- for example mother and children's groups, playgroups and performance groups. With £5000 of Crowdfunding support we would be able to keep our letting fees at this low level to support our community and other groups.
Our village hall has served a wide range of community needs for nearly 50 years. We want to ensure that it may serve the needs of our community for generations to come. Every penny raised by your Crowdfunding donations will help us achieve this. Thank you!

Carol & Zane Blanchard are the Secretary and Treasurer of Barsham & Shipmeadow Village Hall in North Suffolk. The village hall is a largely unspoilt Victorian schoolhouse, rather charming but woefully in need of modern internal toilet facilities. Reg. Charity No. 304705.
