    Story

    Glioblastoma is nicknamed "The Terminator".

Six weeks after my marriage to the love of my life, Kate, we were a happy family with our four children, my life felt complete.

Out of the blue in March 2016, I was diagnosed with grade 4 cancer, a Glioblastoma brain tumour. With a prognosis of approximately fourteen months I was shocked, devastated and scared.

I am now past my time line and fighting.

My biggest wish and hope is to see my children grow up, be a grandparent and grow old with my wife.

This is my last chance to try and stop or stabilise my brain cancer.
I have undergone three brain surgeries in little over a year, with constant chemotherapy along with radiotherapy sessions. Respite is not an option. March 2017, I had exhausted the NHS treatments currently available. The tumour had grown, and I declined extensively over the week. Initially losing my left side use until the only movement I had left was my right arm. I faded into unconsciousness. Believed to be general disease progression, I was put on end of life care at home with my wife and children. They prepared for the worse.

I have gone from a happy, healthy fifty one year old man in the prime of my life, to death's door, it seemed I'd run out of time.

Amazingly four days unconscious without eating or drinking I did regain consciousness. I wasn't giving up.

Out of NHS options, I have begun treatment at Charing Cross Hospital, self funding immunology treatments, and I had my third surgery in April this year.

The total treatment expense is an unknown, I'm not a millionaire.

Every day counts and this would not just be for myself and family but if this combination of new immunology drugs work, it could be a major breakthrough in cancer and brain tumour treatment that will help other people survive this devastating disease and other metastatic cancers.

I'm always amazed at the kindness, care and concern shown to me by others and I am eternally grateful for any help.

Glen had a recent scan following his latest treatments and although a little early to tell there was nothing bad to see. We and his oncologist are hoping this is a good sign. Fingers crossed for his next scan in August. The bad news is Glen is currently in hospital with pneumonia. He is fighting hard to regain his health and is most frustrated to stay in hospital. He is receiving the best care and I hope to have him home soon. Kate & Glen
