    Story

    Goldie's Cat Rescue's vet bills are starting to spiral out of control; we need YOUR help! As Goldie's Cat Rescue is a non-profit organisation that rescue, rehabilitates and rehomes the felines that most cat rescues turn away - senior cats, FIV+ cats or cats with long term illnesses (such as diabetes or neurological issues). Many of these cats face euthanasia.

    We honestly cannot help any more kitties until we clear our vet bill. Having just taken in two more cats last night who were going to be euthanised yesterday, who have not received ANY veterinary treatment since they were kittens (Brinkley is 15 and Oscar is 10!) they will potentially costs over £350 in veterinary fees EACH just to get them ready to find their forever home.

    All donations are gratefully received, so please help us to help more kitties, just like Rupert, Spike and Trevor who are below....

    This is where your donations go;

    This is Rupert. He came to us after his owner of 14 years left him in the garden when they moved house. The only luxury Rupert aka has had over the last 6 months was being fed ontop of a bin by the kind neighbour. He lost so much weight from being abandoned that he came diabetic 😿 After a 4 hour round trip to save him, our vet also found;

    💙 He has big, massive open and infected sores on the bottom of his feet. His paw pads are red, cracked and bleeding, and has what looks like a mix of dirt and (literally) crap caked on over the top of the open sores.

    💙 His teeth are gross. They’re infected and he needed 10 entire teeth removed.

    💙 He is entire and a prime suspect of FIV / FeLV, not to mention he has that horrible entire male urine smell (even when I got home an hour after the vet appointment, I could still smell it …ewwwww) THANKFULLY he was FIV and FeLV negative - both the vet and I couldn't believe it!

    💙 His fur is horribly dry, dirty and he needs more than just a good groom.

    💙 He is not microchipped.

    💙 His claws are so long I am surprised they haven't curled into itself and caused his paw pads to be further infected.

    💙 The only thing he had going for him last night was that he doesn’t have fleas, and how loving and affectionate he truly is.

    He has been in our care now for 3 weeks and has gone from a blood gloucose count of a dangerous 23.25 to now a stable 3-3.7! Once his mouth has properly healed form his massive dental, we will be ready for adoption.

    Spike, the MASSIVE gent finds himself in our care after being handed around 3 family members in his 17 years, all now no longer able to continue the responsibility of caring for Spike cat after taking accommodations that do not allow pets 💔 The family did not even stay for his vet appointment yesterday and instead arrived 30 minutes prior to the appointment and just left him with the reception team at the vets, so we can only guess what veterinary treatment he needs, so will basically be starting from scratch. 😫

    Last night at the vet, Spike wasn't impressed and would of probably quite happily would of tried to murder the poor vet (but wouldn't you too be a bit peed off after 17 years of love and now you've got a vet and some crazy cat rescuer pulling you about!). This morning he was a MASSIVE fluff ball of hissing and spitting and not to mention lots of cat swearing. Tonight he is the most affectionate, kiss giving, purring his head off feline. He has barely left my side. 😻

    So back to last night - all we could do for him was request a MOT blood test. We should have the results in a few days so fingers crossed 🤞 Today after a few phone calls I managed to hunt down his full vet history 👏 and it appears that he has never been vaccinated. He has suffered from a life time of UTI's 😿 but has also been fed dry food 😪 - a deadly combination! In the last 10 minutes he has visited the little boys litter tray 4 times, so will speak to the vet about popping him on some antibiotics (as I typed that sentence, make it 5 times).

    But don't worry Spike, we'll soon get you sorted!!! 💚 Nice yummy wet food ONLY from now on, and only the best quality - no more carbs. Might even try a bit of raw turkey mince and see how he likes that!

    I've told Spike to be more realistic but he has requested for his forever home to be a bit more tropical than here in Ol' Blighty as you can see from the next photo!

    Then once he's feeling better we'll start his vaccination course⭐️ (we're up to 6 times in the tray now - at least we know he's litter tray trained!), get him chipped, flea and worn treated and then let's find the most purrfect of purrrfect forever homes for him. 😻

    Trevor also came to us after being found as a stray. Handed into a vet practice he was extremely dehydrated and ravenous. They started treating his eye but it needed further investigation and with no owner coming forward his options were looking bleak. 😿

    Then New Hope Animal Rescue stepped in and asked if we would take him on to be adopted. Of course we said yes, but in the mean time they took him to their own vet who when they tried to examine him, he became stressed and his breathing became laboured. They decided to lightly sedate him to make it less stressful and to of course investigate further.

    Unfortunately what the vet found was not good news 💔

    💔 An ultrasound scan showed that he is in severe heart failure which is causing fluid to build up in his chest.

    💔 He was found to have a goitre in his neck suggesting hyperthyroisism.

    💔His ear pinnae are thickened with what looks to be sun related changes and possible early stage tumours starting to show.

    💔 He is suffering from an ulcer in his right eye that appears to be chronic

    💔 and also has dental disease.

    Two vets gave him a week to live... HE LIVED FOR 4 WEEKS IN OUR CARE! He was loved, warm, had a full belly and was shown respect when it was finally time. And that is what we think is the most import things.

    ALL DONATIONS RECEIVED WILL GO TOWARDS OUR VETERINARY BILLS - PLEASE, SMALL DONATIONS ALL ADD UP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
