West Sussex & Surrey Angling Academy Charity Fishing Match v Sussex Police & East Sussex Fire Brigade.

Date; Friday 4th May. Venue; Kingfisher Lake, Broadfield Park, Brighton Road, Crawley. RH11 9RZ. ( Opposite K2 Leisure Centre).

9am to 5pm

Presentations; 4pm

The match is in memory of a very dear friend and fisherman who died in 2014. I met Ken 2yrs before he became a PCSO for Sussex Police, Based in Crawley, at the time I started coaching disadvantaged young people.

When Ken became a PCSO, he saw an opportunity to build bridges between these young people and the Police. Ken first turned up in his Ford Transit CCTV van. The students seeing Ken arrive cowered to which I asked 'why'. The answer came back 'it's the police', I said 'have you done anything wrong', they said 'no'.

Ken saw this and was laughing as he approached, I introduced Ken to the students and he promptly spent 10-15 minutes with each student offering his vast fishing knowledge, before returning to duty. When Ken left the students were impressed with his fishing knowledge, and had enjoyed the time he had spent with each of them. As the weeks progressed the start of each session I was asked if Ken was coming.

Such was Ken's presence that the young people had not only learnt from Ken, but had learnt to trust the police.

The money raised will go to raising awareness and fighting rare cancers.

On the day there will be a burger van from 8.30am and an ice cream van from 2pm.

All are welcome to come and support our event, if anyone would like to help us running the event, please be at the lake for 8am.
