Story
1) To raise money for two Wild Dog Conservancies in Zimbabwe: 'Painted Dog Conservation’ and ‘African Wildlife Conservation Fund’. Wild (or Painted) Dogs are extremely endangered. All funds raised will go into these conservation projects for the wild dogs, one based in the Hwange National Park and the other in Save Valley. In addition to protecting the wild dog, these conservancies contribute a great deal towards many community support and educational projects.
2) To hand over a ‘metaphorical baton’ from Petreans to current Peterhouse pupils, and in so doing we continue to have Peterhouse pupils actively participate and give service to something that is bigger than themselves.
See www.runningforwilddogs.com
The running team will comprise of roughly ten of the original Petreans, ten Peterhouse Boys and ten Peterhouse Girls. The entries were open to boys and girls in A Block, 5th and 6th Form. Over fifty boys and girls have signed up for the challenge and we will have to select about twenty pupils based on their character, commitment to training and their fundraising during the Michaelmas Term (entries have now closed). The dates for the Run will be from the 11th to the 20th December 2016. We leave from Harare on the 11th and drive to the start, which is in the Save Valley. Since this trip ends in Victoria Falls we may do a voluntary rafting trip for the participants after the run on the 21st of December. However, the school buses which we are using for this Expedition will return to Harare on the 21st.
